Cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis of Viscosupplementation with orthovisc™ (hyaluronan) in knee Osteoarthritis, from the Brazilian private health care system Perspective

This study was published in 2012 in journal of Value in health (IF 2012:4.491) by Brazilian orthopedics. In this article 3_ years of all the medical and non-medical cost of treatments of knee osteoarthritis in 1000 patients were evaluated. Patients could start in ‘hyaluronan Treatment’ (conservative treatment _ Orthovisc™) or ‘Conservative Treatment’ states and then transit (6-month cycle duration) in states total knee arthroplasty ‘TKA’, ‘Post-operative’ and ’Death’ according to transition probabilities extracted from systematic review.

Results

The results of the study showed that intra articular injection of hyaluronic acid reduce the cost of treatments and delayed the knee surgery.
