Effects of hyaluronic acid for the treatment of vaginal atrophy

An alternative approach for the treatment of vaginal atrophy.

This clinical trial was published in 2014 in Minerva gynecological (IF 2015:1.07) by Italian gynecologists. In this study the efficacy of hyaluronic acid vaginal cream with xanthan gum and Glucose oxidase as an alternative for hormonal therapy in treatment of vaginal atrophy in 20 menopause women were evaluated. 31 Menopaused women (with absence of menstrual bleeding of 12 months in women aged more than 40 years) applied vaginal cream for 20 days once daily and each patient evaluated with Visual analogical scale and vaginal health index before and after treatment.

Results

The result of the study showed that hyaluronic acid cream is an effective and safe alternative for hormonal therapy in treatment of vaginal atrophy.
