Nonsurgical Treatment of Cicatricial Ectropion with Hyaluronic Acid Filler, a Randomized Clinical trial

This clinical trial was published in 2008 in journal of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery (IF 2017:0.991) by American ophthalmologist. In this article 15 patients with average age of 76 years was injected unilateral or bilateral lower lid cicatricial ectropion were injected with 1cc of the hyaluronic acid filler in the affected lid, These patients were followed for at least 1 year, from March of 2005 to October of 2006.

Results

The results of the study showed that Hyaluronic acid filler injections can successfully treat cicatricial ectropion by creating an anterior tissue expander effect and may allow patients to avoid surgery. The filler can provide correction for longer than 1 year and can be fully reversible with the injection of hyaluronidase. The treatment is quick and in this anecdotal series was noted to be safe and effective.
