In this study the effect of a single drop of hyaluronic acid on tear film thickness (TFT) in healthy subjects was assessed.

This study included 16 healthy subjects in one eye received a single dose of hyaluronic acid eye drops, and the fellow eye received physiologic saline solution as placebo control. OCT measurements were performed every 10 min after instillation for 1 hr.

Results

The data of this study indicated that hyaluronic acid increases TFT for as long as 30 minutes in healthy subjects.
