Determine the presence of the nitration of tyrosine to demonstrate the involvement of ROS in stress-inhibited PG synthesis and whether HA alters compression-mediated ROS production and matrix PG synthesis of the cartilage ex vivo

Hyaluronan reversed proteoglycan synthesis inhibited by mechanical stress: possible involvement of antioxidant effect

Article specifications

This study was published in 2010 in Journal of Inflammation Research (IF 2018: 2.99) by Japanese and American specialists. One of the purposes of this study is to determine the presence of the nitration of tyrosine to demonstrate the involvement of Reactive oxygen species (ROS) in stress-inhibited Proteoglycan (PG) synthesis. The other purpose is to determine whether HA alters compression-mediated ROS production and matrix PG synthesis of the cartilage ex vivo.

Result

HA neutralized stress-enhanced ROS synthesis and resulted in the reversing of PG synthesis. These data suggest that HA plays an anabolic effect as an antioxidant.
