Article specifications

This clinical study was published in 1995 in Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (IF: 0.26) by Indian Otolaryngologists.  In this article 25 patients with a dry persistent central perforation less than one quadrant in size participated, they received 0.1 ml of 1% hyaluronic acid over the perforation using tuberculin, syringe. The application was repeated every third day till perforation disappeared.

Results

In this study 88 percent of perforations healed and it showed that Hyaluronic acid treatment of dry tympanic membrane perforations not exceeding one quadrant seems to be an alternative to surgical myringoplasty.
