Article specifications

This study was published in 2006 in journal of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (IF2016: 2.276) by American Otolaryngologists. The aim of the study is to evaluate hearing results and postoperative dizziness after Stapedotomy with application of sodium hyaluronate gel (HG) to the oval window niche during fenestration of the footplate.  This study included 59 patients divided in 2 groups: 27 Stapedotomy with HG and 32 Stapedotomy without HG. Preoperative and postoperative audiometric data, postoperative dizziness (vertigo or dysequilibrium), and nystagmus were measured.

Results

The results of the study showed that sodium HG stapedotomy is safe and effective and results in less early postoperative dizziness and nystagmus when compared with the standard technique of stapedotomy.
