The Use of Hyaluronan after Arthroscopic Surgery of the Knee

Article specifications

This review article was published in 2010 in Brazilian journal of The journal of arthroscopic (IF 2009:3.206) by American orthopedics. This article reviewed some of the more recent evidence recommending the use of viscosupplementation for the management of symptomatic knee OA and pain relief after arthroscopy.

Results

Results of the review showed that use of intra-articular hyaluronan immediately after surgery can reduce pain and improved muscle rehabilitation. Currently, it appears that in the presence of symptomatic OA after arthroscopic treatment of pathology causing mechanical knee symptoms, viscosupplementation serves a definitive role in helping to reduce symptoms of pain and improve function in a significant number of patients
