Treatment of First Carpometacarpal Joint Osteoarthritis with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy and Hyaluronic Acid Injections

Comparison Between Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy and Intra-articular Hyaluronic Acid Injections in the Treatment of First Carpometacarpal Joint Osteoarthritis.

Article specifications

This clinical trial was published in 2018 in Journal of Cell Transplant (IF 2015: 2.54) by Chinese specialists. The aim of this study was to Compare Efficacy of Autologous Stromal Vascular Fraction and Autologous Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Combined with Hyaluronic Acid for the Treatment of Sheep Osteoarthritis. A total of 34 male small tail Han sheep, approximately 6 months old, skeletal immature, with a mean weight of 30+5 kg, were used in this study.

Result

IA injection of autologous adipose mesenchymal stem cells combined with hyaluronic acid ASC+HA may demonstrate better efficacy than autologous SVF+HA in blocking OA progression and promoting cartilage regeneration, and autologous ASCs (5×107 cells) combined with HA potentially survive for at least 18 weeks after IA injection.
